Career fairs offer students a unique opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of employers, all in one place! It may seem very exciting, but for many of us, it can be an overwhelming experience. There are tons of employers present, and thousand of students- where do you start? We’ve listed some top tips to help you make the most of the career fair, and give you a head-start on your future.

    ·Do some research

Do your research on the different companies who are attending the fair- you can find the list on MyCareer events calender. Visit the company website to find out more about them, and check MyCareer to find out what opportunities they have to offer. This will give you an understanding of what they’re all about, and who they are looking for. In this way, you’ll avoid asking the obvious questions that they have answered on their website.

    ·Be prepared

First impressions count, so make sure that you look and act the part. With thousands of students passing by all day, you need to make sure that you stand out by being presentable and well-equipped with the necessary information. Employers will be impressed by the effort you’ve made, and they'll remember you long after the fair has taken place.

    ·Timing

As they say, timing is everything! Think about when you want to visit companies, as they can get rather busy around lunchtime and may leave early in the afternoon. Designate some time in your day to spend at the fair, and plan it carefully.

    ·Freebies

Employers will bring lots of freebies to attract you to their stand. If you’ve spoken to the employer and they offer you something then take one, but don’t just grab something and run!

    ·Explore

Don't be overly preoccupied with "brand name" employers since they may have the most competitive employment scenarios. Smaller employers who are not well known may offer wonderful opportunities and allow young graduates to take on more responsible roles early in their career. Keep an open mind, and explore what's out there.

Last but not least, remember to have fun! Being prepared does not mean that you need to be rehearsed, and employers really want to get to know you. Put your best self forward, and make the most of this unique event.
